Sensory Characteristics>

Sensory Characteristics #

Instructions provided for understanding and operating content do not rely solely on sensory characteristics of components such as shape, size, visual location, orientation, or sound.

Content/Design Considerations

  • Avoid referring to visual indicators, like “the red button,” or “the left-hand side of the page,” or “the square box.”
Use of Color>

Use of Color #

Color is not used as the only visual means of conveying information, indicating an action, prompting a response, or distinguishing a visual element.

Content/Design Considerations

  • Where color is used to convey meaning, include another visual element (like a symbol or text) to convey the same meaning.
